The Jazz Cats
The Jazz Cats blend jazz standards with gems from the Great American Songbook. From Miles and Fats to Dizzy and Duke, these cats love to wail.
Pianist Mel Nusbaum began his career in Chicago playing blues guitar and bass with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and jazz guitar with many jazz greats including John Klemmer, The Brecker Brothers, Cecil Payne, Chico Hamilton and Patato Valdez. Switching to piano, Mel now delves deeply into harmonies and has recorded several albums of his own compositions.
Drummer Lou Selmi began his career with The Locals. Their hit record “You Never Have Fun” hit #1 in Japan. Lou studied with Tony Williams (Miles Davis) and played with hard bop pianist Sam Dockery (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers). Lou’s drumming also drives the Zydeco Revelators, a French rock-New Orleans boogie band.
Bassist Bart Erbach’s first gigs were in church on Sunday mornings. He moved on to the rock club circuit and eventually formed the nine-piece high-octane dance band, Joyride. Bart grew up listening to the Great American Songbook and studied with Rick Laird (Mahavishnu Orchestra) and Christian Fabian (The Lionel Hampton Big Band).
