Pershing Field Garden Friends™ (PFGF) celebrated the fall solstice on September 14th with Falling Leaves: an evening of poetry, prose and song to benefit the gardens at Pershing Field.
Our event was graciously hosted by Lourdes and John Shinnick at Lulu’s Hair Zone. It was a warm and inviting venue with tasty sweet and savory bites provided by Square 1.
The third in our yearly Solstice Series was emceed by PFGF™’s very own Mauro Altamura. Anyone in attendance would agree he out did himself again in securing outstanding talent. Great job, Mauro! The young and talented Sophia Oro started off our evening with a soulful original song. Jen Hyde and Brian Bradford shared their praiseworthy poetry and prose. Our featured musical group was Cabaret Sauvignon with Amy Elise DeJong, Alexandra Finger, Amanda Levie and Elena Zazanis. They are a Jersey City based “a capella” quartet covering tantalizing tunes from today’s top 40, all the way back to old torch songs. Such a treat!
We are thankful to longtime PFGF supporter Ron Russell of Urban Architecture for his sponsorship, Central Liquors for their continued support and Jim Fallon who generously donated his painting of Thelonious Monk on combat paper, made from shredded military uniforms for our door prize. Thanks to Susan Newman from Susan Newman Design Inc. for creating our promotional materials and Tony Skalicky of Remco Press for printing our beautiful posters. Most importantly we thank our community for their unwavering support, making this another successful Solstice Series event.
Stay tuned for details on our Holiday Fundraiser to be held in December – I can promise you it will be another fun filled night in support of our park!!
