Pershing Field Garden Friends™ (PFGF) celebrated the first weekend of spring on Friday night at 942 Summit Ave for its Fundraiser, Spring Bouquets: an evening of poetry, prose and song to benefit the gardens at Pershing Field. More than a fundraiser, it was the kick off to the community for the re-opening of Bloomsbury Sq and the new bloomBar. We are thankful to proprietor Niambi Cacchioli for creating a warm and inviting venue and for hosting in her inimitable style. Rashidah Annur and her sister Khadija of POSH curators did a wonderful job coordinating our event. Delicious refreshments were served including pickled vegetables with beet hummus and quinoa croquettes from Busy Bee Organics and matcha vanilla and raspberry lemon cupcakes from Brooklyn Whiskers.
The first event in the third season of our Solstice Series was again emceed by PFGF™’s very own Mauro Altamura. Great job, Mauro!! The incomparable Tiphanie wowed the crowd with her original, soulful songs while South St resident Gerry Rosenthal accompanied on guitar and vocals. Sarah M. Sala and Melida Rodas shared their poetry and prose… insightful, sensitive and often times amusing. Thanks to Susan Newman from Susan Newman Design Inc. for creating our promotional materials and Tony Skalecki of Remco Press for printing our beautiful posters. The event was sponsored by Century 21 Plaza Realty. Most importantly, we thank our community for their unwavering support.
The second of our Solstice Series, Summer Wind, will be held in June with details to follow. If you are a writer, poet or musician and would like to participate in this or a future event, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 201-259-1800.
